The British Embassy previously owned this area before it moved to the new office in Ploenchit. Later, the Post Office Department had taken over the place and built a new office building which is this Grand Postal Building. The construction started on1st March 1935 and finished on 11th August 1938. Total construction time was three years and five months.

The Grand Postal Building is a T-shape 4-story building with a basement. The front part is 103.80 meters in width and 38.5 meters in depth while the back part is 22 meters in width and 96 meters in depth. The building is a modern architecture combined with Neo-Classicism and Functionalism, focusing on the straightforward simplicity, and using vertical and horizontal lines as the main design elements.

The prominent feature of this building is a pair of garuda stuccos on both corners of the porch designed by Professor Silpa Bhirasri. These garuda stuccos had been made later after the building construction finished and had an opening ceremony on 24th June 1940. In front of the building is the memorial statue of Prince Bhanurangsi Savangwongse, the first Director General of the Post Department, which had its opening ceremony on 4th August 1983.

CONCEPT :

Envelopes may look very simple but have many unique features.
